We are a group of Israeli Messianic Jewish and Palestinian Christian women. (For more on these specific groups, click here.)
Our peoples, the Israelis and the Palestinians, experienced yet another cycle of violence this past summer. Various media channels expressed their views on the war. We paid special attention to the articles and blogs published by those in our communities, and for the most part, we were disappointed. Most of these articles did not represent our own views on the war, or our views regarding the other side.
On the Israeli side, we found many leaders excused the use of violence as the only way to respond. They lacked a voice of mercy and grace for the Palestinian people in general, and for their fellow Christian Palestinians who are suffering more injustices as a result of this war.
On the Palestinian side, we found our leaders spoke of a time of destruction and hopelessness. They expressed dissatisfaction at the deterioration of the situation, and they called for an end to the violence. That said, there were not many who wrote, and none of these blogs or articles were written by women.
We feel that there is a missing voice in the midst of it all, and that is why we started this blog. We feel compelled to share our life experiences as Palestinians and Israelis trying to survive a reality of exclusion. This blog is part of our response to the conflict.
We have chosen to blog anonymously to protect ourselves and those we love. We are not ashamed of what we have to say, but we are ashamed of how intolerant our communities have been towards those who speak up.
May this be an outlet for those who contribute, a source of hope in the encouragement we might find from other voices here, and a snapshot into the lives of average Israelis and Palestinians.
