I was awakened at 3.47am by something. Lying in bed trying to get back to sleep I heard the drones of a helicopter nearby. This is nothing new these days but at this time in the morning it usually means 'something is going on'.

Sure enough a huge blast/ bang followed by screams and shouts in the distance. then the Mosque set off announcing something. The Helicopter droned on.

Goodness me, I cringe, WHAT WAS THAT? Something awful is going on in a nearby neighbourhood. No chance of sleep now and my mind is racing.

I think to myself it sounded like a house being blown up. Nobody over there must be sleeping.

What should I do? Get up and put the news on? Pray? Call somebody to see if they know anything? It is too early to disturb anybody yet. Family  members are sleeping in other rooms and I wonder if they are awake.Or if they heard anything? My husband is out of the country so I must be calm and in control.

Suddenly there is a thud at the front door. It is the newspaper being delivered as usual. Nothing has stopped the delivery man and his work and if I remember rightly he lives very close to the neighbourhood where the noise was from. The birds begin tweeting , the sun comes up, another day begins.

I must get up and continue my mundane tasks - put the washing on, make sandwiches for school and think what to cook today because the best case scenario is that the members of my household will arrive back home tonight hungry.

Routine, blessed routine is like an anaesthetic.

Rule: Doing the 'daily deal' helps you to keep functioning.

P.S. I just heard on the news it was a house demolished. It is quieter now the helicopter has gone away. Wonder what today will bring?
