Goody Two Shoes Gets A Strange Request
Life can become routine wherever you live; boredom has to be fought, and sometimes an odd request can help. This is what happened...
A relative called me: a lady (Russian) that she works with knows a priest living in Russia who needs some special powder for his parishioners from the Milk Grotto Cave church in Bethlehem. Could I get it?
Sure why not? If it helps people..At least it is cave wall powder, not gunpowder. I agreed and then promptly forgot all about it, forgot that is until my relative called to see if I had managed to get the powder.
There was no point pretending; I had forgotten. An outright confession from “she of lapsed memory” was the only thing to do.
Because of my guilt, I recruited a friend to help speed up the process...She also lives nearby and offered.
She was dispatched to try and find a dispenser of the special powder scraped from the church walls. She found one, but at a price…
The powder vendor clearly took advantage of her and engaged her in a conversation about his love of women's body parts and his knowledge of them.
We decided to return together (safety in numbers) to collect the ordered powder. We zipped our coats up to our chins and became quite nervous/silly speculating that maybe the shop was “booby trapped!”
Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happened...We did, however, decide to check the church wall that the powder had come from and even take a picture to send to my relative, for her to give to her co-worker, who could then send on to the priest in Russia in order for him to show his parishioners…
Strange requests can happen anywhere, anytime. They seem to come in this part of the world in the most unusual forms, making life a bit more interesting. It certainly provides a change from the usual topics of conversation, which often revolve around safety and security.
Learned: helping people can come in all forms.
