GOODY TWO SHOES CLEANS THE WINDOWS
I almost fell out of the window! Sitting on the windowsill 3 floors up leaning out to try and clean the window from the outside. Whizz, pop, bang, whizz, pop, bang as the tear gas canisters flew past me. They almost hit my car below.
It was Nakba day, end of school and the everyday solidarity with the hunger striker prisoners in Israeli jail, still it took me by surprise. Most of the confrontation between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian youth was about 200m away in another direction so I felt it was safe to continue with my daily life.
Suddenly I remembered my washing was hanging in full range of the tear gas waft on the roof, quickly running up to retrieve it when the very smelly SKUNK (chemical Butanethiol) was sprayed by a military truck very close by. Not pleasant.
I am not new to this but yet I am. Our family temporarily relocated to Bethlehem whilst our house in Jerusalem is being renovated.
Shortly after this a couple of people with lots of shopping bags wanted to cut through the back area of the building to get home quickly avoiding the trouble on the street above. They live in Aida refugee camp a short distance away. I opened the gate for them and they gratefully rushed off.
I am told to expect more tear gas, bullets and SKUNK this week.
Two of my sons are living/ staying with us here and now I understand the fear and worry for their safety that Mothers here talked about.
Maybe the couple with the shopping will be helping me.
Moral: Whenever possible help each other.
