This is my Home

It’s been almost 19 years since I first left home and moved to the Middle East. I don’t quite know what I thought I had to offer to a centuries-old conflict, but I felt called to go – and off I went! It’s been such an adventure, and there are still a few chapters to go (I hope).

A New Jerusalem Day

I am an East Jerusalemite.

For those who are not familiar with Jerusalem’s recent history, in 1948 my family, along with thousands others who lived in West Jerusalem, fled the city to Jordan after hearing about the gruesome Deir Yasin massacre. The city was divided in the Nakba (1948 War);

In Palestinian culture, there is a lot of pressure on women to be good and hardworking housewives. The house always needs to be spotless, and the kitchen always needs to smell of food and dessert.
