“It is your fault! I have the right of way and you didn’t stop!” says Abu Hisham, the Palestinian driver, who just sideswiped my car, sliding his side doors into my blinker.
“I was already in the middle of the road! Where should I go?” I respond angrily.
I raise this issue and challenge you to ask yourself: Why are Palestinian Arabic speakers borrowing words from English, Hebrew, or other languages rather than using new Arabic words to express themselves?
In highschool, we studied the countries involved in the World Wars. We learned about the two main groups opposing each other during World War II, the Allied and Axis Powers, and we also learned about a third group, the neutral one, namely Switzerland.
